Carnival is the week's centrepiece. On Wednesday afternoon everything else stops, and Infants, Major League and Teenz come together for one big, loud, colourful celebration.

How Carnival works

Groups spend the earlier part of the week getting ready — costumes and decorations take shape in the Arts & Crafts marquee — and on Wednesday it all comes out at once: music, dressing up and every group showing off what they have made.

A playscheme tradition

Carnival has been part of the scheme for generations. Ask a parent who came as a child and there is a fair chance their strongest memory is a Wednesday afternoon in a costume made of crepe paper and enthusiasm.
