Leyland 10k raises £8,400 for the scheme

Four hundred runners took to the streets of Leyland on a bright Sunday morning in May, and between them they raised £8,400 for this summer's playscheme.

Every penny goes straight into the fortnight — minibus hire for the trips out, craft materials, sports kit, and the hundreds of small costs that add up when you are looking after a thousand children a week. It is the single biggest fundraiser in our calendar, and it is entirely run by volunteers.

Where the money goes

Fees from families cover only part of what a week costs to run. Fundraising like this is what keeps the scheme heavily subsidised, so that a full week of activities, trips and outings stays within reach of every family in the area.

“You can see it on the day. Four hundred people running through Leyland, and every one of them knows a child who has been to playscheme.”

Registration for next year's run opens in January. If you would rather help on the day than run it, we always need marshals, water station volunteers and a few strong pairs of hands at the finish line.
